The brief was clear in its essentials but open in its form, which is where the real work begins.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\"A stone of this size and cut can easily end up sitting too tall on the finger, the setting thrusting it further from the hand than it should,\" explains Arabel. \"From experience I knew the proportions needed to be resolved before anything was crafted - not adjusted afterwards. That's why we began by scanning the diamond itself. A pear-shaped stone has a curved belly on its underside, and a standard setting template cannot account for that unique curve. By scanning the stone first we were able to build the setting around the exact contours of that specific diamond, cradling it from beneath rather than forcing it into a generic mount.
