Arabel Lebrusan is a contemporary visual artist whose practice often treads the line between art and jewellery design.

Formed over 585 million years ago during the creation of the East African Rift, Tanzanite is a comparatively recent discovery, first found in 1967 in Tanzania’s Merelani Hills by Masai tribesman Ali Juuyawatu. Its remarkable, shifting colour quickly captured global attention after its introduction by Tiffany & Co. in 1968. Although its reputation was challenged in 2001, these claims were later disproven, leading to the establishment of strict traceability measures to protect the integrity of the trade.

The Tanzanite Foundation - who commissioned these one-off art jewels - now supports responsible sourcing and local communities, marking stones with a microscopic seal of Tanzanian origin. These earrings also showcase intricate Spanish filigree - an ancient craft that Arabel has long championed - bringing together Mother Nature's miraculous precious materials and enduring artisanal skill.
